Obituary

(1938 – 2021) – Chiefland, Florida / Orlando, Florida

Cynthia Eleanor Beck Terechenok of Chiefland died Sunday, August 29, 2021 in Ocoee, Florida. She was 83. Cynthia was born in Dothan, Alabama July 19, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold "P.K." and Emma Phillips Beck; one brother, Phillip Kenneth Beck; daughter Sheri Anna Terechenok, and grandson John Henry Terechenok. She passed with her husband, Henry "Hank" Terechenok, by her side, as he had been for over 60 years. She leaves sons Henry Michael Terechenok (Ceil) of Spring, Texas; John Andrew Terechenok (Amy) of Winter Garden; a brother, Charles Beck (Ivelisse) of Chiefland; grandchildren Sam and Max Terechenok of Orlando.

Cynthia's first home was DeFuniak Springs, Florida, where her father was a U.S. Soil Conservation agent. After assignments in Graceville and Lake City, the family moved in 1945 to the farm in Levy County that her grandfather homesteaded in 1880. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Chiefland, graduating in the class of 1956. She was active in academic and social clubs, cheerleader and played piano at Concord Baptist Church. Cynthia was awarded a scholarship to Orange Memorial School of Nursing in Orlando (now Health Central) where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1959. She met Hank Terechenok of West Virginia who was performing his military service as an Airman with the U.S. Air Force at McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando (now Orlando International Airport).

Cynthia and Hank were married on October 10, 1959 and settled in Maitland, Florida. She continued her career as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years at hospitals and private practices in Orlando. Cynthia spent long working hours caring for others — and, at home, a loving daughter, sister, mother, and devoted wife.

After retiring, Cynthia and Hank moved to Chiefland to the farm home where she was raised, and they enjoyed reconnecting with relatives and friends. Her grandkids and niece & nephews' children affectionately called her Shuggie. She taught them how to unconditionally love others and to be thankful to God in all situations. On her passing, she heard the words from Matthew 25:21. Her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Madison at Ocoee for their loving care for her in these past years and to Advent Health Hospice staff for their help the last few months. Due to prudent precautions of the COVID pandemic no public funeral will be held but a celebration of life will be announced later.

The family of Cynthia Terechenok invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her memory.
